I have found the vegan gem in NYC. I have written a few posts about how to order vegan at popular fast food places and as you’ve noticed, there is not always an easy way to get a filling meal. It also often consists of ordering “without ___” or “made with ___ instead of ____”. I don’t know about you but I hate complicating orders and making my servers lives hell. That being said, it was amazing to walk into Terri and order something straight off of the menu just the way it comes!
Terri makes fast food dining simple and delicious! There many has so many options from breakfast to lunch to shakes and desserts! When given the opportunity to dine at Terri, I was overwhelmed with options and by the fact that everything on the menu was an option for my diet!
When I walked in, the staff was extremely helpful, especially Carolina who helped take care of my order. The atmosphere is very modern and everything was very clean! As soon as a group of people got up from the counter by the window, Carolina came over and cleaned it up so I had a fresh surface to enjoy my food!
Carolina recommended the Southwestern Chicken Melt, which turned out being my favorite thing of everything I tried. I went with my boyfriend to try their food and we ordered a little bit of everything so I could give a well rounded review.
I mean look at that spread 😍 how could you not fall in love? We ordered the BBQ pulled pork, the southwestern chicken sandwich, roasted sweet potatoes, lady in red juice, chocolate + peanut butter shake, gluten free vanilla cupcake and the peanut butter brownie… wow that was a mouthful… literally 😏.
Let me just tell you… if you go to Terri (why wouldn’t you, honestly) you NEED to try the Southwestern Chicken Sandwich!!! This was the most delicious vegan meat replacement entree I have ever tried! You really wouldn’t believe it wasn’t chicken if you tried it plus it offers so much more than just an awesome protein source. With bbq “chicken”, guacamole, sweet corn, “cheddar”, lettuce and tomato, this sandwich gives you a burst of so many flavors when you bit into it. This was the first thing I tried and because of this, the rest of the food I tried had tough competition!
Brian ordered the pulled pork… but you know I had to try a bite 😉. I am originally from Syracuse, home of Dinosaur BBQ, which is so good that it’s been featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on Food Network. That being said, I had high expectations for a vegan version of a food so close to my heart. Terri uses BBQ Blackbird Seitan for their pulled pork that I was surprised to learn has such a similar tough texture to pulled pork. This sandwich exceeded my expectations and tasted like something that you would expect from a restaurant that specializes in BBQ fare. Topped with coleslaw and pickles, this sandwich had the perfect zing and crunch that you would expect from a pulled pork sandwich.
They have so many eye catching sides like their potato salad and spicy broccoli but I am a sucker for sweet potatoes and ordered their roasted sweet potatoes. They were the perfect texture and delicious! They came seasoned to perfection, which I thought was awesome! I was so thrilled to see that they had a potato side option that wasn’t fried.
The second thing I tried was the chocolate and peanut butter shake (made with soy milk) and I honestly couldn’t believe that this shake was dairy free. If Terri wasn’t completely vegan, I would have second guessed it! If you love Reese’s peanut butter cups like me, (they are honestly the one thing I miss since going vegan) then this shake will make all of your dreams come true! I think it’s better than any other peanut butter cup shake or sundae I have ever had. Brian and I got this to split and we were fighting who got the next sip. I just wish they had an option for a larger size (even though that’s not the healthiest wish).
The next thing I tried was the lady in red juice. This was honestly my least favorite item, but that’s only because I usually don’t juice and wasn’t used to the beet flavor in this blend. It had a very earthy taste to it, which is honestly just not my cup of tea. I will definitely try other flavors during my future visits because they were really high quality juices and you could taste the quality. They have a ton of different options of juices, lemonade and health shots that are made by them, which I thought was an awesome touch! If you are really into juicing, you should definitely try Terri’s juices!
I also thought it was so neat that they have their own cold brew coffees as well! They had different options of cold brews in addition to their hot and iced coffees so there is an option for every coffee lover. I didn’t try these but they are on my list of items to try in the future! They remind me of the refrigerated Frappuccinos that Starbucks sells in supermarkets. I used to love these before going vegan so I can only imagine how much I would love these.
Next, I tried the peanut butter brownie, which was to die for as well! It was so rich and moist- the peanut butter was just the icing on the cake.
After we order all of our food, Carolina gave us a gluten-free vanilla cupcake as well, which I thought was so thoughtful! The cupcake tasted just as good as it looks, if not better! It was super moist and had a delicious flavor. I’ve had vegan cupcakes from cupcake bakeries and this cupcake gave those a run for their money when it comes to how moist they were!
They had so many dessert options that I didn’t know what to choose. I loved each option that I tried and can’t wait to try the others during my future visits, especially their Apple pie tartlets!
After leaving, I shared some of my leftovers with my non-vegan family members and they fell in love! Since we visited last Saturday, my little brother has been asking to go try it almost every day! I realized that Terri is truly talented at creating a complete vegan meal that is high quality and so delicious that even your non-vegan friends won’t believe it’s vegan! If you are a New Yorker or are traveling to NYC in the future, Terri should definitely be on your list of places to eat!
