Instagram stories have changed so much over the past few weeks, making it much easier to customize your story aesthetic. Every day I try new tactics to make my stories pop and they are so easy that I wanted to share them with you!
1. Colorful Block Letters
Once you follow the steps outlined above, arrange your letters however you want them. I like arranging them horizontally with the letters slightly overlapping like the next photo but I’m also showing you other options!
2. Solid Color Background
To make a solid background, import any photo to your story then select the color background you would like. You can choose from the preselected colors, use the dropper from the last tutorial, or hold down the preselected colors to select from the large color pane:
Once you select your color, hold your finger down on the screen until the screen turns the color you selected!
3. Cursive Lettering
This isn’t really a tip but I always make the drawing tool the smallest size possible to be able to write neatly. You can also look on Amazon for a small pencil sized stylus if you aren’t able to write neat with your finger.
I also like making the tool as big as possible and then trace over it with the small tool!
4. Adding Your Bitmoji
Creating a Bitmoji is a whole other story but you can add your Bitmoji to your Insta stories but it does take an extra step! You’ll have to import your photo into Snapchat first.
Then you can add additional touches in Insta Stories to perfect them!
5. Lines Across Screen!
There are two different styles/ways to achieve this! One way is the spaced line. To achieve this, type multiple dashes in a row “——–” in classic style writing. Then use your fingers to make the text bigger and stretch it out to the desired line thickness. The dashed lines will result in a thicker line and the last dash will be separated from the rest which looks like a spaced line.
Once you have your line, you can add text however you want on top of it!
If you want a thinner line with no gap, use the underscore “_____” and follow the same steps!
6. New Text Options
You’ve probably notice that Instagram has added new text options a few days ago. If not, all you have to do is click where it says “classic” at the top of the screen when you’re adding text! You can use multiple text styles to create your own look!
I also like the look of single letters at a time in modern font. I think this looks awesome!!
7. Story Features
Instagram recently introduced GIFs to Insta stories making them much more fun to customize! You can express your personality and aesthetic through the GIFs you add to your stories so your followers can get to know you better! It access GIFs, hit the smiley face in the top right corner of the story screen.
There are also a ton of other stickers that Insta Stories offer. Another favorite feature of mine is the poll feature. If you’re a blogger or YouTuber, you should definitely be taking advantage of this feature. You can ask anything like whether your followers want to see a certain post or video, which they would like to see first, or just any fun random questions just to get to know your followers.
I posted this poll and it helped me prioritize my posting schedule to help better cater to what you want to read!
8. Filters/Editing Story Photos
If you didn’t know already, once you capture your story, you can swipe right or left to add filters to your stories. What I have started to do is take a photo, either in the camera app or Insta stories and save it, then open up the VSCO app and apply my theme filter to it (if you don’t know what VSCO is or want to read about how I edit my photos, click here to read yesterday’s post about creating an Instagram theme!). Having my Instagram theme continue on to my story photos makes my aesthetic more coherent and I love how it looks!
Although it’s a subtle difference, it definitely makes an impact on the overall mood of your stories!
9. Hype Type Story Videos
Every time I publish a blog post, I make a story video with the Hype Type app! It’s free and they are really nice!
If you are a blogger or YouTuber, you should definitely be taking advantage of this app! It makes it so easy to create an appealing video to market your blog or channel in your stories!
10. Boomerang Stories
I don’t think that it’s any secret that you can take a Boomerang directly from Insta stories. If you didn’t know, you just swipe left at the bottom of the screen until you get to the boomerang option. What I suggest is that you aim to create a boomerang the next time you go to snap something for your Insta stories. It makes your story more interesting! The only downside is that you won’t be able to edit the story in VSCO unless you pay for VSCO+ because it’ll be a video, not an image. You’ll notice many of the popular accounts include a lot of boomerangs in their stories and that’s a huge hint that you should be too! 😉
These 10 tips are what I use most to make the most of my Instagram stories! I hope they helped you learn how to take advantage of the feature to further engage your audience and direct more views to your blog or channel… or if you aren’t a blogger/YouTuber that you learned how to up your Insta story game!
